Fool’s Hour

I’ve been questioning the way contemporary society defines time as a tool for productivity and goal-oriented progress—a linear, managed resource that flattens our experience of the present. So I ask : If time no longer points toward the future, how else might we live it?

In thinking about such question, my tarot card grabbed my attention. When I interpreted the Fool card in tarot, I thought it was a bad omen. Then I was told that the Fool represents: the embrace of new beginnings, the expansion of one’s horizons, and the willingness to take risks guided by intuition.

Following my interpretation of the Fool tarot card, I am exploring how the Fool experiences the world , particularly their relationship with time .  This work is a 43 inches  diameter wall-mounted Ferris wheel clock, constructed from transparent pink acrylic.

The work merges the forms of amusement park rides and traditional clocks but deliberately strips away the functionality of timekeeping. Inspired by the cultural phenomenon of clockless environments in amusement parks and casinos, the piece explores the absence of time perception in immersive experiences.
